This morning I woke up to a very hefty-feeling package sitting on the table. I wasn’t expecting anything, but it was addressed to me. It was pretty obvious who it was from, but what was inside?

Mini Care Package

Inside was a stack of nifty presents, wrapped in tissue paper and bound in a rubberband. I was very impressed. Sure, I had to drop $20k to get perks like this, but still, awesome!

Inside the Package

So what’s inside? Some guide about Mini Financial Services leasing services, which I’m sure would have been enthralling had I leased. Instead, I was focused on all of the sweet stuff. Roadside Assistance Card, a sweet business card holder, the “Unauthorized Owner’s Manual,” a guide to the “Idiosyncracies of Your New Mini,” cross-country roadtrip bingo, an inter-car messenging system, and best of all, a sweet Mini-branded “Mini Motoring Journal” with matching pen!

Best care package ever!

So I decided I’m going to move to England. Southern California is great, but when I’m in England I always feel like everything around me is immersed in so much culture. Compared to the vapidity of SoCal, and especially Newport Beach, I’d be glad to have an environment that has history.

Fortunately the process shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m speaking, of course, relatively. Any kind of move is a gargantuan task, and international travel even more so. But the fact that I have a great deal of family there, as well as being a direct descendent of a citizen, is one less step to overcome.

I haven’t broken this to my parents, yet, either. I don’t expect them to take me seriously, but I’m going to do it. I don’t have a timeframe or anything, but I’m hoping for before I graduate college. Maybe I can transfer to somewhere in the UK, so I’ll have to talk to someone about that.

I was bored in Fallbrook, and I thought moving to Irvine would fix that. But now, after a year, I’m just as bored as I was at home. (Okay, that’s not true. Irvine isn’t as bad as Fallbrook. At least I have high-speed internet.) The pattern indicates that I am just hopelessly plagued by wanderlust, and I will probably be bored in England after a spell. But what an experience it will be.

If you can’t understand my motivation, just look at these photos of Lytham on Flickr. That’s where my grandparents live, and browsing through those photos instills in me an intense sense of longing. My dad had to come to California to find his way. I think I have to go back to find mine.

So I use NetNewsWire for all of my RSS newsreading needs, but the one big problem is that I still had to manually check my LiveJournal friends page, where the majority of my unenlightened real life friends still post about their miserable lives.

Thank goodness for the powers of teh internets. Found this on some blog called nerdtech: You can use Firefox + Greasemonkey to generate an OPML file of all of your friends, ready to import to your favorite newsreader. I’m totally stoked.

Alright, so here’s the first non-podcast post. Exciting.

I just wanted to point out the most awesome t-shirt ever at Threadless.
